The South Hampshire Section
The South Hampshire section was set up in 2008, our first ever meeting was at the Mortimer’s PH 8th September 2008.
We no longer meet at the Mortimer’s having changed to the Sir John Barleycorn several months later, and now meeting at The Coach and Horses, 11 Southampton Road, Cadnam, SO40 2NF. Meetings are at 8pm on the second Monday of each month. There is not a hierarchy in place, we all have our say in any matters that may arise, and we all have the option to put forward any suggestions.
Our members have a range of machines all varying in the lack of power they produce. From a cyclemotor or two, to a selection of autocycles are what you generally see on our runs, plus early mopeds from the 1950s to later models from the 1980s. All are very welcome.
Our first organised run was from The Alma PH in Upham, near Southampton on Sunday 28th April 2009. This is still the venue for our first run of the year and still takes place during April. The run takes in part of the South Downs, or the ‘Hampshire Alps’ as any cyclemotorist will have us believe.
Our second run of the year is a very pleasant Autumn Run through the New Forest starting at The Coach and Horses PH, 11 Southampton Road, Cadnam, near Southampton, SO40 2NF.
Our third and final run of the year is the Twixmas Run from Luzborough PH, Romsey. This is so named as it takes place between Christmas and the New Year. After the run we have our Christmas dinner together and generally make merry. A warm welcome awaits anyone who cares to join in any of our runs.
All you need is an eligible machine of questionable power capabilities … a sense of humour will help too. Likewise should you feel the urge to come along to our monthly get together at the Coach and Horses, we meet around 8pm, have a drink, chat and general catch up with what we’ve been up to in the month.
During the summer months we meet around 6:30pm and have a short run before the meeting starts, weather pending. We have a great deal of knowledge amongst us (well some do), so if you need help getting an old machine back on the road we may be able to help.
