Kent, Sussex & SE London Section

We are loosely organised by me, Nick Devonport. I do my best but keeping a road run together is a bit like herding cats! I can be contacted on 07833 623630, by post at 28 Bridgeside, Deal, Kent, CT14 9SS or by email nick_devonport@hotmail.com.

We support events run by the Dover Transport Museum in Willingdon Road, Whitfield, Dover. This fascinating attraction has many exhibits of interest to the moped enthusiast including a collection of small bikes which will evoke memories for many of us. The famous Norman brand was manufactured in Ashford, Kent, and is well-represented in the Museum. Although Dover has the reputation of being somewhere that you visit because you’re either going or have been somewhere else, this place is worth a detour. Check their website for opening times and admission charges. Your ticket is valid for a whole
year for multiple visits.

Several of us meet up with the East Kent Classic Motorcycle Club on a Wednesday evening at the East Kent Railway, a heritage line at Shepherdswell near Dover. It’s a great place to meet for coffee, a burger and a chat. You won’t be alone if you turn up on a moped as Andrew and I regularly fly the tiddler flag. It all happens between 6 and 8pm.

Our next event is the Summer Camp weekend of July 22-24 at Lillyroo’s camp site at Sholden near Deal. Please note that there are no electric hook-ups at Lillyroo’s but it makes up for this with an on-site bar and snack shack. We’ll have road runs on the Saturday and Sunday. See my Section Notes in Buzzing for booking details or call me on 07833 623630.

The season closer for us is the Headcorn Aerodrome run, a little earlier this year to avoid a clash with another classic event and, incidentally, the wedding anniversary of one of our regular couples who had to miss this prestigious event last year! The dates for your diary are September 23-25. Basic camping at a fascinating location with plenty of aircraft movement to entertain us when we’re not on the road. Again, see the Section Notes or ring me for details.
