Andy Speak. 3rd May 1960 – 1st March 2019

Andy Speak died at 3am on 1st March 2019, following a devastating stroke he suffered on 17th January 2018, from which he never recovered consciousness.
Never other than a proud Boltonian (Lancashire, not Greater Manchester), his life was generally lived within a square mile of his home in Great Lever, Bolton. His business, A & S Motorcycles, operated from a railway arch in Bolton, which displayed a notice bluntly stating that no Chinese machines would be worked on.
Andy never embraced change or modernisation! Gruff, stubborn, monosyllabic, set in his ways, of fixed opinions and outlook. Andy was all of these, but beyond all that, he was clever, funny, and a thinker. Not one to suffer a fool, Andy was very ready to help a friend, which included anyone riding a New Hudson. Other makes were tolerated.

Andy Speak’s funeral is at Overdale Crematorium (BL1 5BU) on 18th March at 2pm. A motorcycle escort is planned to accompany Andy. The entourage will leave Andy’s house at 1:00pm and proceed to Andy’s workshop at 82 Bury New Road, Bolton BL2 2BD. After the service the wake will be held at the Ukrainian Social Club, 99 Castle Street Bolton BL2 1JP. If you can, please turn up on a machine with engine and pedals. The Ukrainian Club is the best place to assemble as it is about two minutes ride to Andy’s workshop. Logistically it is difficult to assemble at Andy’s house, so we have been asked to join at Andy’s workshop. There is limited parking at the Ukrainian Social Club, I suggest we meet there about 12:30pm. The distance from Andy’s workshop to Overdale is about six miles. It would be helpful if you could let me know if you will be riding with the bike escort. frank_brzeski@hotmail.com or phone 07742 067025.
